SPRING 2012 TREND ALERT: SPORTY-SEXY BRA TOP
There were many clear early trends from the NY runways and none more so clear than the bra top. Sticking to the overall theme, these bra tops were kept to a fashionably sporty vibe featuring thick straps, elastic bands, sporty cut outs, and paired with flowy jackets, full skirts, and worn over dresses.
While the look might not for everyone, it certainly captures the spirit of the season so far. It’s daring, refreshing, and sexy in a non vulgar and slightly retro way. Designers on board with this trend include Donna Karan, Jason Wu, Proenza Schouler…etc. For next Spring this would be a fun item providing countless layering options, could be a good pop of color with all the whites we’re seeing, or if it’s in line with your aesthetic, throw one over a dress like Chris Benz did in his show.

Proenza Schouler explored strapless options and presented one of the most alluring version on the runway

If you are leaning toward quirky, consider mimicking Chris Benz's version of Bra over dress for an unexpected play on mixed prints
It might be a stretch to see this developing into a major retail trend, but you will definitely see this featured in the countless “sporty-feminine” editorials to come in early 2012.
Stay tuned for more trend alerts as London, Milan, and Paris unfold.
