FALL 2011 TREND ALERT: PETER PAN COLLARS

March 16, 2011

This season designers continue to take fascination with the shirt and specifically paid attention to the collar with the Peter Pan style as a major point of departure.

Peter Pan collars, an instantly French motif, signifying innocence with a hidden sex appeal, popped up on all major runways and has shown up in a wide array of interpretations. We saw oversized polka dot fur collars in the Marc Jacobs show, and oversized flat ones at Miu Miu and Prada, then we have classic styles at Carven anchoring bold prints, and of course they were on nearly every Louis Vuitton look juxtaposing the fetishistic vibe.

Designers took liberty to play with proportion and shape of the collar making this one of the easiest ways to spice up a look with minimal effort and maximum results. This trend is sure to take off come fall or even late summer as the layers start piling on and we are all looking for a easy and elegant way to add interesting details to our outfits.
