TREND ALERT: ALL WRAPPED UP
The Sche Report has spotted a new trend of wrapped harnesses in various forms seen on the Spring ’11 runways as well as the streets in Europe. Designers from the likes of Michael Kors, Hermes, Lanvin, Rag & Bone and Temperley showed variations on the runway while trend setters such as Susie Bubble donned them while attending the shows.
Most styles seen reference an Equestrian theme using bridle leathers and buckles that resemble straps used while horseback riding. Temperley created harnesses with open link chains for a more feminine and light feel. All styles were paired with more feminine fabrications such as chiffon offering a juxtaposition with the harder feel of the leather. Lanvin styled his harnesses with airy transparent dresses topping them off with masculine edges such as bowties. Michael Kors paired cognac leather harnesses with clean lines and silhouettes offering a modern take on Heritage. Hermes’s classic styling of tailored menswear elements used the harnesses over jackets topped off with Western influenced hats.

Harnesses have also been spotted on the streets of Paris and Milan where editors and the stylish set adorned themselves while attending the shows.
Harnesses were first brought to the market by a brand called Fleet Ilya from London. Rihanna was seen donning the brand in a one-shoulder version starting a trend in shoulder adornment that has been seen on the runways for several years now. Check out some of Fleet Ilya’s pieces below.
