TREND REPORT: DOODLES by ALEXANDER WANG

September 15, 2010

We know we’ve already talked about Alexander Wang’s Spring 2011 collection, but we spotted a up-coming trend within his collection that we are sure to see Junior labels and DIY street stylers grab onto.

Alex developed his first print by having his staff doodle on butcher paper.  Very reminiscent of Virgin Suicides doodling, the print includes writing and scribbles of pictures, symbols and words.  He created cotton canvas fabrics and washed silks out of the print to go along with his utility driven collection.  Some styles are seen below:

Isabel Marant also showed this trend in her Spring 2011 collection.  See styles below.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen doodles on the runway, Miss Sixty has shown a few styles and both Marc Jacobs and Fendi have produced handbags.

Our prediction is that we will see Wang-wannabe’s everywhere throughout the globe drawing and doodling on everything from their denim to tshirts and bags.  Just recently, we have spotted young girls with drawings on their legs and arms from artistic moments at the party the night before.

So get out your sharpie, black ink pen and magic markers and start creating your own version of this fantastic print idea. We think initiating it on a pair of boyfriend jeans or cut off denim shorts would be the best way to replicate this trend.
