A COLORFUL STATE OF MIND FOR 2011: DIOR COUTURE and ARTIST TASYA VAN REE
As we approach a Fall Season where designers focused primarily on neutrals, black and icy shades, Christian Dior’s colorful Couture runway show last week was a breath of fresh air for the upcoming season. John Galliano mixed a variation of hues from icy shades to bright red and turquoise, yellow and orange, black, powder blue and purple-and every other color in the rainbow of Pretty. His inspiration came from the intricacies of the Flower and how the color of the petals would change with a varying degree of light.
The collection represented every woman’s fantasy of color and what it could be like if there were no limitations. Seeing Dior’s collection already had us in a “Colorful state of Mind”, and Tasya van Ree’s art show “Birthmarks of the Feminine” confirmed that Galliano is onto something.
The Sche Report always loves to find a connection between Art and Fashion and this discovery was just that. Tasya is an artist/photographer from Los Angeles who frequently uses limitless women as her subject. The colors in her art are vibrant and powerful and they each seem to represent a separate ego of herself. All mixed media, her work includes both sketching and painting and provides an almost 3d approach from the viewer.
The similarity of colors within both mediums is amazing and very inspiring as we look at color trends for 2011. The mix of nude/black with bright and pastel colors is a small trend that was seen on the Fall runways that we are sure there will be a lot more of for Spring 2011.
I would love to see her vision translated into apparel, maybe producing artwork for a Tshirt company or creating hand-dyed fabrics or prints with her color palette.
Tasya van Ree’s artwork can be bought at Edition One Hundred. You can find out more about Tasya and view more of her work including her amazing photography on her website.
