A Horse of a Different Color

March 22, 2010

Between London and Paris, I saw a few stylings that rejected the new minimal chic and opted for their own individual take on color schematics.  It is hard to find any color worn in Paris as the palette is almost always Black, Grey, Navy, Olive and Camel.  People who wore color really stuck out among the crowd and I pegged them as stylists or street bloggers.

Inspired by more of a Japanese aesthetic, these street walkers caught my eye.

Japanese version of Spring's Mixed Prints trend. The asymmetrical red hairdo replicates many shorter cuts seen on the edgier ones around town. Notice the way she wears her scarf; Isabel Marant brought this back for Spring and the tassel scarf will see another life this spring/summer on the street.

Seen in London, this ode to Mugler was nothing short of eye-catching. I am especially drawn to the large silver shaped necklace that takes his look into the future.

To me, this girl represents quintessential London street style with her mix of colors and prints. I love how she uses the umbrella as an accessory to her look rather than a hindrance. The black/white spectators and the printed umbrella add a sense of unexpected humor.

In a sea of black, grey and camel this guy's simple addition of bright blue was a pleasant surprise. I loved the simplicity of the palette, and the combination of the dropped crotch/ rolled pants with Lanvin sneakers definitely had a Japanese influence.

This girl used small pops of color to make her statement. Nothing too over the top, you would have missed her if you didn't look closely. I especially like how she has draped the chain belt over her shoulder for an unexpected military reference.

Mongolian fur chubbies were seen everywhere...almost all of them were seen in bright colors while many were simple in black. i noticed the bigger and boxier the furs, the better.

This girl was with a serious posse of London street stylers trying to get into the Vivienne Westwood show. This vintage coat was so unique and looked like a version of a Picassso painting on fur. She wore it with street flair pairing it with a Vintage Los Angeles Raiders hoodie and a Giles dinosaur bag..
